How to wash oranges.

How to wash oranges? Yeah this is one thing we overlook most of the time especially if we don’t intend to use the rind of that orange. Today, because of the current situation of the world, washing oranges before use has become very important.

I am not talking of just washing oranges with salt and water or vinegar, I am taking of washing them in a bowl of soapy water with a sponge.

  • Soak oranges or any citrus fruits in warm lightly soapy water ( dish liquid is fine) for about a minute.
  • Scrub the fruits thoroughly with a sponge.
  • Rinse out the soap completely and let it dry on the counter or pat dry with a cloth or paper towel if using immediately.

Irrespective of what you intend to use your oranges for, make sure you wash them before peeling or cutting.

How to peel oranges and how to cut them.

How you peel oranges and how you cut them depends on what you want to use the oranges for. The way oranges are peeled for fruit salads will differ from when you want to make fruit juices and from when you simply want to suck on it.

If you are going to juice the oranges, make a fruit tray or cut into quarters or wedges (see orange wedges pictured in the linked post) or slices, you won’t need to peel it. You peel oranges when you need to suck on them or makes a fruit salad.

One small orange has 45 calories. But unfortunately one small orange won’t make a cup of juice. Orange is a high carb fruit. Though it’s healthy it should be consumed with moderation.
