What are Stamped Cookies?

Stamped Cookies are Cookies that are beautified by using Cookie Stamps. You can use any cut out cookie recipe to make Stamped cookies.

What is the best cookie recipe to make Stamped Cookies?

Your favorite roll out cookie dough can be used to make Stamped cookies. I would advise you use a drop cookie dough like a chocolate chip cookie dough. I love to use either my shortbread cookie dough or my best sugar cookie dough recipes. They are easy to make and perfect for making Stamped cookies since both cookie doughs are firm and can be rolled out.

How to make Stamped Cookies

  • Prepare your favorite cookie dough
  • Make sure your cookie cutter is slightly larger in size than the cookie stamp you intend to use.
  • Roll out the cookie dough to a ¼ inch thickness.
  • Dust your cookie stamp with some flour.
  • There are two ways to stamp your cookies,

Method 1:

This is my preferred method. Stamp the cookie dough with the cookie stamp. Then use a cookie cutter to cut out around the edges. Transfer cookies to a lined baking sheet and bake. This method works faster for me.

Method 2

Press down cookie cutter on the dough, leave it there there put the cookie stamp inside the cutter while it’s still on the dough, then press the stamp gently to imprint the dough while still holding your cookie cutter in place. Repeat process till dough is used up. Transfer cookie cut outs to a baking sheet and bake.

How to choose the right cookie stamp.

There are cookie stamps with a wooden stamp or a cast aluminum stamp, there are plastic cookie stamps and there are others with a silicon stamp. I prefer those with a silicon stamp because of the flexibility of the stamp. It’s easier to wash in between the crevices. But the cast aluminum seem sturdier with deeper etched designs.

There are also wooden rolling pins that serve as stamps.

When choosing a stamp. Whether Plastic, silicon, wooden or cast aluminum, take a look at the design of the stamp and make sure it’s design is well marked out deep enough to make an impression on the cookie.

Fun fact: You can make fun themed cookies using themed Cookie cutters like these Game of thrones ones.

How to make Stamped Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup ( 2 sticks ) salted butter (Room temp)
  • 1 Cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp almond extract optional
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3 cups all purpose flour divided 2 ¾ and ¼ cup

Instructions

  • Mix the dry ingredients except sugar ( flour, baking powder) set aside
  • Cream butter and sugar till light and fluffy
  • Add the egg, vanilla and almond extract mix till combined.
  • Mix in the the 2 ¾ cup flour 1 cup at a time till all the flour is well incorporated and dough comes together in a cohesive ball (Be careful not to over mix. ) If dough is sticky add the remaining ¼ cup of flour.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
  • Roll out dough in between 2 parchment papers to about ¼ in thick.
  • Stamp cookie dough then cut out with cookie cutter.
  • Transfer cookie cut outs to a lined baking sheet
  • Bake in the middle rack for 10 -12 mins.
  • Bring out of the oven and let cool for 8 mins on cookie sheet then transfer to cooling rack to cool completely.
  • Enjoy with milk or homemade hot chocolate
